How much does R-454B cost?

As of Oct 15, 2026, the median online list price we track for a 20 lb cylinder of R-454B is $467 ($23.35/lb), with a range of $409–$485 across 4 sellers. Contractor counter prices vary by region and account.

What is the price of R-22 per pound?

The median online list price we track for R-22 is $24.97 per pound ($749 for a 30 lb cylinder) as of Oct 15, 2026. Because US production ended in 2020, prices vary widely: $449–$900 per cylinder across 4 sellers.

Is R-454B more expensive than R-410A?

Yes. At current online list prices, R-454B costs a median of $23.35/lb versus $9.78/lb for R-410A, about 2.4× as much per pound. Cylinder sizes also differ (R-454B is typically sold in 20 lb cylinders, R-410A in 25 lb).

Can I still buy R-410A?

Yes. R-410A remains legal to produce under shrinking AIM Act allowances and to use for servicing existing equipment. What changed is that new residential split systems installed from 2025 (after the sell-through period) must use a refrigerant with GWP below 700, such as R-454B or R-32.

Is R-32 the same as R-454B?

No. R-32 is a single-component HFC (GWP 675); R-454B is a blend of 68.9% R-32 and 31.1% R-1234yf (GWP 466). Both are A2L refrigerants, but they are not interchangeable — use only the refrigerant specified by the equipment manufacturer.

Where do these prices come from?

We record published single-cylinder list prices from US online refrigerant sellers, with a link to each source page, plus contractor-submitted counter prices that we review before publishing. See the methodology page for details.
