R-22 is an ozone-depleting HCFC regulated under the Clean Air Act and the Montreal Protocol. US production and import of R-22 ended on January 1, 2020; since then, the only supply is reclaimed or previously produced stock.
R-22 can still legally be used to service existing systems, and technicians must hold EPA Section 608 certification to buy it. Prices are typically the highest per pound of the refrigerants we track and vary widely between sellers.
